USVMX  2009

National series
Alphabet soup is on the
menu, as very few letters
will be left out on the
series calender. ARX,
FLVMX, ACR, MOVMX,
H&T,Midwest, HighPoint,
TVRC and OSMX will all
be in the mix. This could
equal a lot of Local
flavor.The races will be run
by each Org, scores kept.
The series requires
participants to race 3
events and only the 6 best
finishes will count toward
the Championship. I had a
chance to interview some
of the people involved,at
which time I asked them
all the same 3 questions.
By Robin Hannah #960
1. What do you think a VMX racer wants at your race?
2. What do you think makes a good VMX Track ?
3.Who is your favorite Local racer?
Rick Doughty and Siege have decided to take up
Quilting. This is big news. Normally two grown
men quilting would be no big deal, but in this case
they are stitching together a National VMX series,
from a select group of Regional Independent
Vintage MX Organizations and Clubs. From the
East coast to the Western reaches of the U S of A
the USVMX 2009 series is stretching out to cover
the entire nation in it's first year. A new "outside
the box" method of combining separate entities
into one series is being used for the first time in
Vintage Amateur Motocross. Rick Doughty,
Racer, entrepreneur, the man who brought us
Post vintage mx and the force behind Vintage Iron
and ARX, has teamed up with Siege, racer, Artist,
the man behind Hammer and Tongs. From the
look of things Rick is useing his connections and
Siege is doing the website and some of the leg
work and promotional art.
ARX.... Rick Doughty 1. They want a organized, well run Event with accurate scoring that is
on time. 2. Elevation changes, varying terrain with different soils and obsticles. Tight
enough to be interesting but have fast sections too. 3. Mike Johnstone, for his commitment
to the sport.
MOVMX.... Curtis Harper... 1. Their PAST!!!! That fun they had or missed having in their
youth and a safe place to do it. I want to make sure if a familly is going to spend $400
dollars of their INTERTAINMENT MONEY to get here and race, they are going to get
$400 dollars worth of fun. 2.Not a sideshow for a modern event. Our bodies are older, our
bikes are older, so NO DOUBLES though I think Tabletops are OK. 3.Impossible, Last
year we had 5 famillies racing with 3 generations of competitors. Richard Young raced for
my Dad back in the day and still races with us now .
