Many Novice and Intermediate racers stand up at the appropriate places on the
track, and then let their legs and body flop around over the rough stuff. This habit
causes your weight to pull the bike off line. It also makes your arms pump up, as
you have to hold on tighter to keep from going off the track or being thrown from
your bike.Use your knees/thighs to hold on to the bike. Imagine your knees as an
exrta set of hands to hold on  and steady the bike in the whoops or entering a
rough corner. A trick I use is to ride on the balls of my feet,on the outside half of the
pegs, angleing my lower legs inward and jamming my knees into the tank or seat if I
am back farther. Try it and you'll see your arms will thank you.

Use your knees, so you don't overuse your arms!
