These exercises open my
mind to the evolution of
MotoCross technology,by
practicing side by side
comparison testing in real
racing situations. I haven't
been to a race yet that this
time traveler hasn't been
approached by people
genuinely interested in the
roots and evolution of the
MotoCross bike,also the
men in the white coats and
butterfly net haven't caught
up with me yet.
Moohoohoohooaaaahhhh.
AVDRA Regional Argyle MX track Dixon
or as I saw it Rut Camp
Okay, I brought a knife to a
gunfight. Racing a CZ 400
yellow tanker,with down
pipe on a tamed down
Modern style track. I knew
I was in for large jumps,
rhythm sections or whoops,
stuff I might not have
encounered when I raced
here in May. I knew before
hand I would probably be
the only vintage bike to be
on the start grid. I don't
mind that. Infact I consider
it a challenge to give up
some suspension travel and
do some time travel. Like I
was sudenly transported
from 1972 to, in this case
to 1984.
This year has made me a better rider. I think it was
Ferrari that advertises "racing improves the breed".
Well I've done alot of racing this year since I went
multiclub in May. Challenging myself often and with
more severity each month. Ric Tipton of AVDRA
has come up with MX out of seemingly nowhere.
Piggybacking at venues that have challenged me as
an Intermediate MotoCross racer to the point where
I feel I have actually  learned something this year.
Weight placement,in sand,jump and momentum
management and now at this event RUTS. Ruts are
a balance obstacle.  Balancing your weight, throttle
and momentum. All these skills I have honed racing
at Ric's races. So much of what I've learned this
year is used negotiating Ruts.
Argyle was an exercise in ruts
this time around. No section of
track was immune to rutting.  It
was Rut Camp. Racing a CZ with
down pipe, I had to plan my lines
as to not, leave a little somthing
for the next guy.The AVDRA
racers all in all had some good
dicing going on between them.
Everyone was in the mix. A small
but eager turnout made the day
seem bigger. George Marshall
the new Dist 3 Secretary and
current AVDRA National #1 gave
an MX school for AVDRA
members.
AVDRA did somthing nice for the
Pomeroy family.
