CZ 36o Twin Pipe
Mark Bennedetti was just 10 yrs old when his National Championship Winning 1966 CZ 360 Twin Pipe was being built behind the Iron Curtain in Stakonice on the River in the former Czechoslovakia. The 360 was built to do battle with the BSA 4 stroke singles of that era. In 1964-65 Ahrma's Jeff Smith won the World MX Champion- -ships on a BSA. CZ's Paul Fredricks needed a bike with the power and handiling to do the job. First raced in the 1965 season the new 969 model 361cc twinport finnished 2nd behind Jeff Smith on the BSA with Rolf Tibblin 62-63 World Champion MXer in 3rd on another 360 twinpipe.
Then in 1966 the same year Mark's bike was made Paul wins the first of 3 consecutive MX World Championships for CZ. The first man to ever do so and he starts this in 66 on the 360 twinpipe. By 67 the factory riders are on sidepipe single port models which are very close mechanically to the 380 models you see being raced at most vintage mx races now. So mechanically different are the twinpipe bikes that only a few parts may be used from later models wheels, swingarm, forks. Therefore twinpipe 360's technically and historically are unique.
SSo let's try to grasp how rare this bike is. Only built for 2 seasons. Behind the Iron Cutrian. Durring the Cold War and here it is in the U.S. Winning the 2007 AHRMA National Vintage MX Championship With Mark Bennedetti #56p at the controls. Talk about history repeteing itself the guy that was right on Mark's tail the whole season was Jeff Robertson on a BSA 4 stroke. The Title came down to the last race in Tulare Calif. Nov.11/ 2007
